Dr Julie Aspden (Steering Committee for Leeds Omics). Julie is an RNA biologist and particularly interested in mRNA translation and long non-coding RNAs. Her group use a combination of Drosophila melanogaster and mammalian tissue culture to understand the regulation of translation and the function of lncRNAs. They employ a combination of Ribo-Seq, RNA-Seq, proteomics (TMT), RNA-IP-Seq and comparative genomics to understand RNA-protein complexes (e.g. ribosomes). Julie organised the Biochemical Society ‘Ribosome Profiling’ workshop in 2016.
